FRANCESCO TONINELLI
ARTIST STATEMENT
I’m an Italian classical musician naturalized into electronic and experimental realms, where I try to create powerful and touching objects involving my main interests: religion, mythology, the rural world; in general: the past.
Through an alchemical and hallucinated use of microphones, tapes and machines I forward to the speakers musique concrète heavily influenced by cinema and game sound design, often resulting in bizarre and baroque layerings of recognizable sounds and impactful gestures.
Such a narrative approach finds sometimes a natural extension in stage works where sound, words, objects and movements conspire plots of love and pain for the spectator.
The combination of those symbols can be read and create explosive meaning, but the intention is always to simply cause fears and tears.
