Artistic citizenship and art educator
Teacher: Maria Westvall
Traditional boundaries of what conventionally is perceived as the role of music (and musicians/composers/producers) in society are constantly contested, especially in times with increasing social, economic and democratic challenges. The concept of Artistic citizenship highlights the potential in artists’ engagement to enforce creative agency in people’s lives, which highlights the transformative potential of art in society. Artistic citizenship deals with how artists can contribute with their knowledge and skills to address some of the general challenge facing society. This is an inclusive approach on arts education which may affect the quality life for individuals as well as social groups. This course investigates the relationship between individuals, groups, music and society through the discussion connected to various literature and other media. We will explore the concept of Artistic citizenship on local as well as global levels, and from the perspective of you as performers/composers/ producers.
