The course gives an overview and presents highlights from opera history in the context of broader music/culture perspectives in relation to the epochs, composers and works in question.

PREREQUISITES
Competences and knowledge corresponding to an artistic BA or similar. Familiarity with stage/performative arts and/or classical music/culture is an advantage.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the conclusion of the subject, the student is expected to:
- Be familiar with major works, librettists and composers from opera history
- Possess knowledge of style features and dramaturgical and compositional characteristics in the various historical periods
- Possess knowledge of the historically and culturally relevant features of the relevant periods.
