Manifesto for electronic music as the messenger of change and utopia
Teacher: Morten Carlsen & Eva Brandt
Business as usual no longer works. We must use electronic music as a moral act – as a cry for change. No more indifferent aesthetic wrapping and dystopia. We must knock on the gate of inequality and expansion. We will create a work that focuses on the paradoxes and dilemmas of humanity, and that reaches beyond a Covid-19 and the next financial crisis.
PREREQUISITES
No subject specific prerequisites.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- At the completion of the module the student must:
be acquainted with the disciplines (taxonomy) of electronic music with special focus on computer music, vocal processing and synthesis, spectral analysis, machine learning AI, interactive programming, and not least, knowledge of the participants’ top competences
CONTENTS
- We work with the following areas:
The students and teachers bring together working methods and knowledge, use the social and intellectual resources in the creation of a ‘gesamtkunstwerk’, in which the whole is always more than the individual parts. Inspiration can be drawn from ancient Greek tragedies, Mozart’s operas, cartoons, contemporary history, SciFi, – you name it. The voice is used as an instrument for more than reciting and singing. for example in electronic processing and voice synthesis. All tools are received with open arms: analog and digital synth’s, circuit bending dims, software like maxMSP, Supercollider, Kyma (yes, RMC has one), DAW’s plugs, knobs’ sliders.
