Exploring Formats

EXPLORING FORMATS is a project where we combine education, KUA-projects, research and KUV in collaboration between the arts educations.

The project does not have a fixed form – as such, when you engage with the project as student, teacher or programme developer, you participate in developing the project that match your needs and expectations.

Exploring Formats is a platform you can use both a student and as a teacher.

You can use it for semestre projects, KUA-projects, as an Internship, an independent project – or whatever else that might work for you!

Copenhagen Photo Festival will be the test site for the 2020 version of Exploring Formats.

On June 7th, we give a short introduction to our aspirations for the project and present the ways in which you can participate and engage with Exploring Formats. After the presentation at Holmen, you are invited to join us for a visit to the site of Copenhagen Photo Festival at Refshaleøen.

 

The Program.

MODULES: The program is divided into modules of different duration, each with its own theme. Each module can exist as a completed course, but are also linked thematically and subject-wise to the other modules in a semester.

RESEARCH: The research element is integrated into all modules. In the beginning of each module, a research aspect is introduced in continuation of the theme of the module. This could be the introduction of a methodical approach or a theoretical perspective, which the students can use directly in their practice. Students from the School of Architecture and Design, the music conservatories, the National School of Performing Arts, the Academy of Fine Arts and the Film School can participate in one or more modules.

OUTPUT: Each module produces an output that can be used in a public display or performance, and which potentially can be presented during Copenhagen Photo Festival.

LECTURE: Lecture that supports and extends the horizon within it current theme for a group module. This could be research methods, a specific artistic practice, theory etc.

 

The Modules.

MODULE STRUCTURE: The modules can vary in content, frequency and progress. The modules are developed in a joined collaboration with the participating partners, across disciplines, and based on the collaboration with Copenhagen Photo Festival.

The modules can be adapted to the study programs of the individual schools and can be anything from a few weeks intensive work to a full semester course. All modules contain the following elements in greater or lesser degree: Syllabus, lectures, exercises and production.

CURRICULUM: A module includes a syllabus. The syllabus consists of texts as well as projects and artworks. The syllabus forms a common starting point prior to module start and supports common themes and discussions during the course.

LECTURES: There will be 1-2 lectures during a module. The purpose is to introduce students to a specific topic, method, theory or practice and thereby create perspective and horizon for the specific practice-based projects. The lecturers are developed in collaboration between the participating partners.

EXERCISES: To introduce a new theory, method or practice, shorter exercises and assignments are being performed. This gives the students the opportunity to test new knowledge, perspectives and understanding in practice, in a structured way. Exercises and assignments are reviewed in plenum, and the students are actively involved in giving feedback to each other.

PRODUCTION: During a module, there is an ongoing production in groups of 2-4 students from different disciplinary backgrounds. The production is carried out in order to be able to participate with one or more interventions related to the CPF.
